Full time RVing
I just wanted to talk alittle about a Class of people most have never heard of, or thought little of. Those would be the full time RV'ers that live in their camper 365 days a year. With over 1.3 million of these people driving and camping every day its amazing to me that until last April I had never thought too much about them. In June of 06 I sold my business, bought a 34' toyhauler RV, hooked up to my truck and set out on the "Great Adventure". The first thing i did was buy a Thousand Trails membership (they have over 74 resorts nationwide that you can stay in for free up to 14 days at a time. I then pointed west and left my home state of Florida. Since April I have visited Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New MExico, Arizona, Southern California, Mexico, Nevada (spent almost 6 months there)then headed to Oklahoma, Michigan and ended up in Indiana where I went to work for Thousand Trails. Heck, diesel was getting too expensive and i was ready for a break, so from April 07 until nov 07 I lived and worked in the Batesville Resort which is 35 miles west of Cincinnati, OH. In november I headed back to Florida to work the winter in my home state. What a ride it has been. I have lived and worked with the retired crowd for almost a year now and I love this lifestyle. I was blessed that I didnt have to get old to get into it. At 42 Im the youngest person in these campgrounds during the winter months (snow birds fill them up), but these guys sell their homes (i just rented mine out), and buy 300,000.00 Coaches that they turn into a moving house. There are actually some RVs out there that exceed the $1,000,000.00 price tag. They are Beautiful. So when your driving down the road and you see an old couple with either a pull behind RV or a diesel pusher coach, you can almost bet they have left the worries of the world behind and are spending their golden years on the open road seeing what all America the Beautiful has to offer them. Its an amazing adventure and one everyone should try out to a small degree. Campgrounds arent like the state parks of the last century. These days they are multi-million dollar resorts with all the amenities of a Condo or Timeshare. Im loving life, and my journal is getting fat with pictures of some of the most incredible sites, that normally you would only see on the discovery channel. Now to just find someone to travel with me (besides my dog jager lol). |
