is paintball a sport
ok, so I thought i would just make a comment about paintball in General.
Last year I bought a Tipman paintball marker, modified it with a new barrel, barrel cover and stock (it looked like a very nice assault rifle.). The problem with this awsome looking piece of equipment i purchased is that it was S L O W. I could get off maybe one paintball per every dozen my opponents were sending in my general direction.
Im not sure how many reading this has actually played paintball, but when you have a spherical object strike a fleshy part of your body traveling at several hundred feet persecond, it makes a sizable BRUISE in the impact area. So when im getting a dozen of these strikes for every one i deliver, it doesnt make good sense.
But back to the original reason for this post. Is it a SPORT?
Well, is TKD a sport? When i started playing paintball I was a brown belt in TKD and THOUGHT myself to be in fairly decent condition. But between the speed sprints from cover to cover, The adrenaline kicking in with 50 caliber balls whizzing past your unprotected ears, and the over all excitement of the game, i was BUSTED. Im being honest here. less than 5 minutes into the game i was OUT OF GAS. lol. I was lucky to peek around my cover to even attempt suppressive fire. It takes a WELL conditioned body to play the game with the type of agressiveness thats required to be successful.
So yea, im saying paintball IS a sport. Team members that play all the time, dont just do it because its fun, they do it to hone their tactics and more importantly is to condition their bodies for the requirements of the game. So if you have never played paintball, look for the nearest field, go out and rent equipment and play for a day. Its cheap fun, excellent exercise, and everyone out there playing will bend over backwards to help you get the feel of the game. I havent been to a field yet that everyone i met didnt have some advice to give me. That would be another characteristic of a great athlete. Always trying to better his/her sport by showing others how to play. So what are you waiting for?
