Small slice of heaven in Florida

I just wanted to talk about an out of the way place in North Central Florida that is off the beaten path, and a great place to relocate if you are looking to move to Florida.
Gilchrist County is the smallest county in Florida, and the last county created. It was sliced off of Alauchua County (county seat is Gainsville Florida, home of the University of Florida and the Mighty Florida Gators), and is located 20 miles west of Gainesville.
This little piece of paradise is a rural part of florida that most have never heard of and never will visit. That in itself makes it special. It has ONE red light in the entire county! Less than 10,000 people live in this county and the schools are graded as A+ by the state of Florida. The people there are friendly, everyone knows everyone, and everyone gets along. The crime rate is almost Zero. Ten or so years ago a Father killed his wife and child and committed suicide, and it jumped the county into the FBIs most dangerous places to live according to murder by population. Murders do not happen in this place. At least not the kind that plagues other cities nationwide. You can walk the streets any time of the day or night and always have a friendly hello cast in your direction.
Gilchrist County also sits on top of the Florida Aquifer that supplies Florida with the majority of its fresh water. The West side of the County is marked by the world famous Suwannee River, and the north side by the Crystal Clear Santa Fe River. Inside the county are Numerous Fresh water Springs that pump millions of gallons of crystal clear fresh water per hour into these rivers. Several of the springs are... Hart Springs, Ginny springs, Otter springs, and Blue springs to name a few. They all offer a place to come and pick nick and swim on a hot afternoon, go scuba diving or fishing in the spring runs.
Gilchrist County is also centrally located to alot of Florida's attractions. To the west 25 miles is the Gulf of Mexico, with small towns like Steinhatchee, Horseshoe beach and Cedar Key if you like fishing, diving or boating. To the east 90 miles is Jacksonville just alittle northeast, and Daytona Beach is 90 miles to the East just alittle south. 35 miles to the south is Ocala which is the Race Horse capital of Florida and has given Kentucky a run for its money when it comes to horse breeding. Just 50 miles farther south of Ocala is Orlando and Disney World. How nice it is to live in an area that within a two hour drive you can visit the worlds most famous beach, the worlds most famous Mouse or be swimming in the gulf of mexico. Another 30 minutes farther south of orlando and to the west is Tampa Bay and and St. Petersburg. Home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if your into NFL football or the USF Golden Bahamas (College football). Six hours south is Miami and Florida City which is the gateway to the Florida Keys... Where paradise truly awaits.
My point is, Gilchrist County is a Great place to live! Cheap property (compared to the rest of Florida), the cheapest taxes in Florida, some of the best schools in Florida, and by far the best people in Florida.
Next time your in Florida on Vacation, take a drive up and visit us. You will be surprised at how wonderful Florida can be when you get away from all the transplants and get to know the REAL Florida.
